Visual supports are items your child can see and touch — like objects, pictures, or symbols.

Visual supports give your child another way to understand and communicate. They don’t stop your child from talking.

Children learn best when they know what is happening and what will happen next. Pictures, signs and objects can help because they give children:

• Clear information

• Confidence – there are fewer surprises, so they feel calmer and less upset.

• A way to communicate – they can show what they want or need, even if they can’t say all the words yet.
